EA is opening up a new DICE studio based in Los Angeles which will work on the Star Wars IP which it acquired from Disney recently.
A new report in the Wall Street Journal states that the publisher is investing in a new LA office for its DICE studio with the hopes of poaching talent from key rivals such as Activision Blizzard. The developer is now hiring for several positions at DICE Los Angeles including audio artists, a development manager, and level designers.
The article goes on to state that DICE LA will be a “key cog” in EA’s plans for the Star Wars franchise. DICE’s general manager Karl-Magnus Troedsson told the site, “There is an extreme talent pool over that we want a part of. It’s no secret that our main competitor is there,” meaning Activision and its Call of Duty studios.
DICE LA is aiming to add 60 new staff members by the end of 2013 and has already absorbed several members of Medal of Honor studio Danger Close.
