EA Releases FIFA 12 Patch—Anti-Scam Features, Disconnection Update

THE BUZZ: There has been something of an outbreak recently of Xbox Live accounts being compromised, and many have pointed accusatory fingers at FIFA 12. Will this new patch for the game help the situation?

EGM’s TAKE: So—will these changes indeed put an end to the account taking-over that has been going on as of late? We can’t know for sure just here, but here’s what EA has introduced in a patch released worldwide today.

To help avoid people from accessing the accounts of other players, when logging in to the FIFA Ultimate Team mode, you’ll need to answer a security question if you aren’t connecting to that account from the main console it’s associated with. As well, if you use the web application, you’ll have to answer that same question once every 30 days.

FIFA 12 owners will also be able to put a lockdown on their account at any time from the FIFA 12 web app.

In other changes, trade offers for player cards can now only be sent to those on your Xbox Live friends list, and updates have been made to the game’s auction system.

In a statement released by EA on the FIFA 12 forum, the company stated that, “We’re committed to doing everything we can in our game to help keep [users] safe from phishers and scammers, and our March game update is key part of that commitment.

“We are immensely proud of the huge, passionate community that has built up around FIFA Ultimate Team and we’re committed to providing it with the value and support it deserves.”

This patch also includes updates for other parts of the game, such as fixing a disconnection error on the PS3 and PC versions.
