Next week, the publisher plans to launch copies of Mass Effect 3 into space for fans to find after they descend back to Earth. The copies will be sent into the upper atmosphere via weather balloons launched over New York, San Francisco, Las Vegas, Berlin, London and Paris, sometime next week. Once the balloons pop the games will then fall back to earth for fans to find, in one epic treasure hunt.
You will be able to track the games via the Mass Effect 3 official site once they launch and then head off to find them.
EGM’s TAKE: Now while this sounds like an amazing idea there must be some pretty hefty legal loop holes that EA had to jump through to get permission for this. There’s flight paths to avoid, the ocean, people, a lot could potentially go wrong with this stunt. We expect that the games will be fitted with some kind of parachute device and kept in a case to protect the plastic, if not then some series injuries may be caused by falling game cases at terminal velocity. On the plus side anyone that does find a copy will get to play the game a couple weeks before anyone else.
Do you think this is a good idea? Will you go looking for a copy? Let us know in the comments below.
