Patrice Bergeron of the Boston Bruins will be NHL 15’s cover athlete, EA Sports revealed during the annual NHL Awards.
Bergeron had to take down the Montreal Canadians’ P.K. Subban—a member of the team that ousted Bergeron’s Bruins in the Stanley Cup Playoffs this year—in the cover vote’s fan-picked final. With just over 10 million votes in his favor, though, Bergeron was able to beat Montreal’s superstar defenseman for the honor.
“Being featured on the cover of NHL 15 is a dream come true,” said the Bruins center shortly after the announcement. “The fact that the cover is selected entirely by fans is an incredible feeling. The passion and support from hockey fans, especially Bruins fans, is unlike any other sport and I’m so grateful to everyone who voted for me.”
This distinction only serves as the latest in a long string Bergeron has compiled in recent years. He is a two-time Olympic gold medalist with Team Canada (2010, 2014), helped end Boston’s Stanley Cup drought in 2011, and is a two-time Selke Award winner (2012, 2014) for being a forward who best demonstrates the defensive aspects of the game.
NHL 15 will be available on Xbox One, PS4, Xbox 360, and PS3 on September 9, 2014.
