While last week EA Sports officially cancelled the release of their attempted return to the NBA Live series, rumors had circulated thatNBA Live 13 would have been a downloadable-only title and not a retail release. Today, that rumor was confirmed.

Confirmation—somewhat surprisingly—came from Xbox Live spokesman Larry “Major Nelson” Hryb, who said the following earlier today on Twitter:

NBA LIVE 13 was supposed to be today’s XBLA title, but EA made the decision not to launch it today.

So, wow—EA’s attempt to rekindle the NBA Live franchise indeed was going to end up being a download-only game. Knowing that, it makes more sense that the company would decide to push the relaunch until next year, when they can hopefully put together a more polished product.
