EA Working on a ‘High-End,’ ‘High-Performance’ Mobile Version of Battlefield

Posted on October 21, 2013 AT 02:20pm

Electronic Arts is working on a “high-end,” “high-performance” mobile version of Battlefield, president of of labels Frank Gibeau told the New York Times in a recent interview.

“We are working on a mobile game of Battlefield that will be high-end and high performance,” Gibeau told the New York Times. “It’s our bet that we can successfully pull that off. But we’re embarking on something no one has ever done before—to get these games to inter-operate between platforms. Will it work? It already has in some cases. Will it work for all franchises? Not all franchises will make the transition. Battlefield might be a little harder.”

The next proper installment of the Battlefield series, Battlefield 4, launches on Windows PC, PS3, and Xbox 360 next week, on October 29 in North America (November 1 in the U.K.). PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions will release alongside the next-gen consoles on November 15 (November 29 in Europe) and November 22 respectively.

Battlefield 4‘s Commander Mode can be played on mobile devices, giving one player on each side a birds-eye view of the map and allowing them to assist their faction with supply drops and offensive strikes.
