Nintendo president Satoru Iwata announced EarthBound will be coming to the Wii U Virtual Console sometime this year.
For many gamers about my age, EarthBound—a Role Playing Game that originally debuted on SNES in 1995—is a gem of a memory from the Golden Age of Gaming. For others, it represents yet another tired port of a very accessible game that keeps getting rolled out despite fan demand for western releases of Mother 3, a GBA sequel released only in Japan.
Iwata also announced that the Wii U’s Virtual Console will go live next week. Super Mario World, Punch-Out, and Super Metroid will be among its launch lineup.
