Eidos Montreal GM Departs Due to Square Enix’s ‘Lack of Courage’

Posted on July 23, 2013 AT 10:50am

Eidos Montreal general manager Stephane D’Astous left the company last week, citing dissatisfaction with Square Enix, Polygon reports.

“Since last year’s financial short-coming performance of Square Enix Europe, we (HQ London and GM Eidos Montreal) have had growing and divergent opinions on what needed to be done to correct the situation,” D’Astous said in a statement. “The lack of leadership, lack of courage and the lack of communication were so evident, that I wasn’t able to conduct my job correctly. I realized that our differences were irreconcilable, and that the best decision was unfortunately to part ways.”

D’Astous will be replaced by David Anfossi, who currently serves as studio head at Eidos Montreal and was a producer on Deus Ex: Human Revolution.

D’Astous’ departure is the latest of Square Enix’s in the wake of new president Yosuke Matsuda’s company-wide restructuring announced in April. In June, the company announced several new studio heads at Eidos Montreal, Crystal Dynamics, and IO Interactive.
