Entire Staff Of 38 Studios, Big Huge Games Laid Off

Curt Schilling’s beleaguered development studio 38 Studios now looks to be completely out of the game, as reports state the entire staff has been laid off.
Polygon reports that a source “familiar with the company” has told them that the entire staff—which sat at 379 full-time employees as of March 15th—were laid off today. If that wasn’t bad enough, another studio got caught in the crossfire—Big Huge Games has also been shut down as a part of this process.
38 Studios failed to make a $1.25 million loan payment that was due to the Rhode Island Economic Development Corporation on May 1st. That payment was then made on May 18th, but making that payment no doubt put the studio in a position it just couldn’t fight its way out of.
It also goes without saying that the fate of their Kingdoms of Amalur-based MMO, Copernicus, isn’t hard to guess at this point.
We here at EGMNOW wish the best to all of those who have been affected by this development.
