THE BUZZ: Gears of War: Exile was a real thing, sadly it has since been cancelled.
Epic’s Cliff Bleszinski has confirmed that the rumored title was actually in development, but was canned before being announced.
“Let’s just bury the hatchet now,” he told Gamespot. “Gears of War: Exile was an unannounced game that I can’t give any details about that has since been cancelled.”
Early last year Epic filed a trademark for the title along with a logo, shown above.
EGM’s TAKE: We may never know exactly what Gears of War: Exile was all about, however, we think it may have been an early version of Gears of War Kinect that Microsoft had the studio working on. Why wouldn’t the company want one of its biggest franchises to accompany its new hardware? It makes perfect sense, but Epic just couldn’t get it to work and so decided to scrap the idea. The other possibility is that Exile was Epic’s version of Battlelog or Elite for Gears of War. Some details would have been nice, but we can live without them.
