Epic Demonstrates Unreal Tournament 3 Running in Flash

Posted on October 5, 2011 AT 06:20am

THE BUZZ: Epic Games has revealed that the latest version of Adobe Flash Player supports Unreal Engine 3, and showed off a demonstration of Unreal Tournament 3 running in a web browser.

“With UE3 and Flash, games built for high-end consoles can now run on the web or as Facebook apps, reaching an enormous userbase. This totally changes the playing field for developers who want to widely deploy and monetise their games,” said Tim Sweeney, Chief Executive Officer at Epic Games.”As the console of the web, Flash is delivering immersive gaming experiences across screens and we’re thrilled to have Epic Games using Flash Player to deliver its blockbuster, premier 3D games on the web.”

In theory this means that all of Epic’s games built using the Unreal Engine 3 could be played on a normal web browser with the support of Adobe Flash Player 11.

EGM’s TAKE: This revelation could have quite a big impact on games, imagine being able to play some of the blockbusters created using Unreal 3 without having to install anything.
