THE BUZZ: Disney has released a new batch of screenshots for the upcoming 3DS title, Epic Mickey: Power of Illusion.
The 3DS title is being toted as a spiritual successor to Sega’s Mega Drive platformer Castle of Illusion, and is currently in development at Dreamrift.
Power of Illusion will feature “a special drawing and painting function that allows players to create rough versions of objects that magically transform into classic Disney-style 2D illustrations,” according to the publisher. The mechanic lets players “move their creations to the top screen where they are further transformed into full-colour, fully-rendered 3D visuals.”
A brief plot description:
“The evil witch Mizrabel, villainess from the classic Castle of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse, finds herself an unwilling inhabitant of Wasteland, and unleashes a plot to escape using the Castle of Illusion to imprison and drain the cartoon essence from currently famous Toons. Players will take on the role of Mickey Mouse as he utilises his magical brush to wield paint and thinner to confront Mizrabel and save the Toons.”
EGM’s TAKE: Disney fans are in toon heaven with the announcemnt of not one, but two, original Epic Mickey titles coming this fall. And while we love Warren Spector’s console creations, there is a nostalgic tug coming from the 3Ds offering that has us fondly remembering the days of hopping disney pixels. We have two requests: 1) How about releasing an HD version of the first Epic Mickey for Xbox and PS3? And 2) Virtual Console releases of the original Castle of Illusion and World of Illusion would be appreciated also. Now, if we could just get a re-release of David Jaffe’s amazing Mickey Maina all of our dreams of classic Disney games will have come true.
