THE BUZZ: Cliff Bleszinski, Design Director at Epic Games, has revealed that he’d like to see future installments in the Gears of War series sell the same as Call of Duty titles.
“We can do better. We can always do better. The number of gamers playing the game online – I’m hoping Gears of War 3 has more than Gears 1 or 2 ever did, especially considering how competitive the market is,” he said, speaking before the launch of Gears 3. “You look at the numbers that Call of Duty and Halo pulls and we’re not at that point yet. I’m hoping Gears of War 3 brings us closer to that point. People forgot also that we’re only the third game of the series.”
“There’s been a couple more Halo’s and a few more Call of Duty’s so who knows, maybe we’ll be able to build upon that success,” he added.
EGM’s TAKE: Gears of War still has a hill to climb in order to grab the mass market that Call of Duty controls, and with Battlefield stepping up things are just going to get harder.
