Evidence Appears Indicating XCOM Shooter Lives On

By

Despite its web presence mysteriously vanishing over a week ago, some new evidence strongly suggests the possibly re-branded XCOM shooter is still kicking.

Two Saturdays ago, the official XCOM shooter website disappeared, followed by all of its trailers on 2K’s YouTube page. But in the past few days, Videogamer received a package full of not-so-subtle XCOM-related promotional materials, and a viral video surfaced with source codesussed out by Shack Newscontaining the phrase “whathappenedin62.”

The viral video (seen below), appropriates a recent Russian meteor crash as a tie-in to what may be the re-branded XCOM shooter. 2K registered a series of domains in March that suggests the XCOM shooter may now be called The Bureau. One of those domains is “whathappenedin62.”

Videogamer, meanwhile, posted a video of the XCOM-related box they received, which contained references to an “Agent Carter,” known protagonist of XCOM shooter (which takes place in 1962).

Simply titled “XCOM,” 2K began development on the title with Irrational Games in 2006. It was then passed on to 2K Australia in 2007, then 2K Marin in 2010. Over the course of its development, Firaxis’ XCOM: Enemy Unknown was developed and released.

Check out both the viral video and Videogamer’s unboxing in the embeds below. Unless 2K accidentally sent that package to Videogamer, it seems XCOM’s re-reveal is imminent.
