This year’s Evolution Champion Series—EVO 2013—was watched by almost twice as many viewers than the previous year, Twitch.tv VP of marketing Matthew DiPietro announced.

“It was nearly fifty percent higher than last year’s EVO, which was the previous record holder,” DiPietro said in a statement. “1.7 million tuned in during the course of the weekend.”

According to DiPietro, EVO 2013 is also the most watched fighting game tournament Twitch.tv has broadcast.

EVO 2013 played host to several fighting game-related announcements, including the reveal of Ultra Street Fighter IV, news of Martian Manhunter as the next Injustice DLC character, and the first look at Glacius in Killer Instinct.
