Far Cry 4 announced, coming to consoles and PC this November

Posted on May 15, 2014 AT 10:35am

Far Cry 4 will indeed take players to the Himalayas this fall, Ubisoft officially announced today.

The announcement confirms Kotaku contributor Superannuation’s report about a Himalayan-set Far Cry 4.

Set in Kyrat, a fictional region within the Himalayas presided over by “a despotic self-appointed king,” Far Cry 4 will feature many of the mechanics that defined Far Cry 3, including a crafting system rooted in wildlife hunting. Ubisoft revealed little else, however, about the upcoming shooter.

“Following the success of Far Cry 3, we wanted to take the franchise to the next level and create a game that will surprise players and exceed fans’ expectations,” executive producer Dan Hay said in a prepared statement. “Given the unique setting, we feel Far Cry 4 will stand out as a top first-person shooter and we’re eager to reveal more about the game in the coming months.”

According to Ubisoft’s press release, the first look at Far Cry 4’s gameplay will come during the company’s E3 2014 press conference, which kicks off Monday, June 9, at 3:00 p.m. PT (6:00 p.m. ET).

Despite the absence of information, screenshots, a trailer, or really anything of substance pertaining to Far Cry 4—a game but six months away from release—Ubisoft still announced the title’s requisite pre-order bonus: three single-player missions starring Far Cry 3’s Hurk and access to Hurk’s harpoon gun.

Far Cry 4 will launch on Windows PC, PS4, Xbox One, PS3, and Xbox 360 November 18 in the North America and November 20 in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa.
