Far Cry

I’ve had Far Cry 5‘s final story mission available to me for a couple of weeks now, and I’m still having fun exploring and picking up the last of the collectible items, but once you liberate all three regions of Hope County, the map can start to feel a lot less dynamic.

Fortunately, Far Cry 5‘s live events are really keeping the game fresh for me, and the current one is no exception.

The latest live event, White Collar Job, is straightforward enough to complete. It’s tasking Far Cry 5 with killing 500,000 judge wolves (or just normal wolves) with either a bow and arrows or throwing knives. If the community as a whole hits this goal, players who signed up and participated will be rewarded with a new outfit called Jacob’s Hunter that lets you cosplay as a cult baddy. Currently, we’re almost halfway there, which is when participating players will be rewarded with 50 silver bars.

However, it’s the individual goal that really caught my attention. Say hello to the shovel launcher.

Ain’t it a beaut?

This bad boy is basically exactly what it sounds like. It’s a rocket launcher, but instead of launching rockets, it launches shovels. Observe:

It’s also really easy to earn. All you have to do is grab a bow, travel to a gray wolf hunting area on the map, and throw some bait. The wolf will come out, and you can take it down with one or two arrows. After that, loot the wolf, which will get you the collars that you need, and also some more bait. Rinse and repeat until you’ve got that shiny new shovel launcher.

Far Cry 5‘s live events launched shortly after the game itself, and so far they’ve offered unique experiences and rewards. A recent event finally got me to play the game’s Arcade mode for the first time, and now I know how I’ll be spending my time in a post-Peggie world. If nothing else, they’re a good reason to log back onto a great game every now and then, though the shovel launcher might be the best reason we’ve gotten so far.

Far Cry 5 is available on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC.

Michael Goroff has been gaming for almost three decades. He's a lover of all games and systems, but he mostly plays Xbox. That being said, if he's a fanboy, he's a fanboy for the game industry as a whole. Spit white-hot fanboy hate at him, trash talk his Gold II rank on Rocket League, or maybe just send him a cordial hello on Twitter @gogogoroff.

Far Cry 5’s current live event makes the best weapon even better

What's better than throwing a shovel like a javelin? How about shooting it out of a rocket launcher?
