Farpoint players can now clash head-to-head in new competitive modes, available through the PSVR experience’s Versus expansion.
Farpoint‘s Versus expansion introduces two competitive modes; Deathmatch and Uplink. Deathmatch is a conventional most-kills-win challenge, while Uplink tasks both players with capturing and holding communication relays around the map to gain points. Matches last multiple rounds, and the first player to claim two of three rounds takes victory.
The modes can be played across three unique arenas, namely Underworld, Permafrost, and Pipeline. Each map is divided into three different sections, where in each round of a match takes place. Capturing enemy spawn points around the maps will give the capturer a notable advantage, as enemy AI units can then be spawned to fight by their side. There are a variety of units that can be spawned, such as Grunts, Drones, and Goobers, with each bringing something unique to the fight, so choosing the right unit to spawn at the right time is crucial.
The maps and PvP combat are shown off in the expansion’s official launch trailer.
The Versus expansion also brings with it a host of new weapons and player skins. There are three new skins and 15 new weapons to acquire, all of which are unlocked by leveling up with Player XP and Weapon XP, respectively. These two forms of XP are earned by taking on the game’s Challenge, Co-op, or PvP modes.
Other new features included in the Versus expansion are Chaos difficulty for cooperative games, an adjustment to the crouching function while sitting, new turning comfort settings, and new Trophies.
Farpoint‘s Versus expansion drops today, December 5th, free for all Farpoint owners. Players must have active PS Plus memberships to face off in the PvP.
