Square Confirms FFXIII Sequel, Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII

Square Enix has their final installment in Final Fantasy‘s “Lightning Saga”, revealed by producer Yoshinori Kitase. Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII was confirmed at a Final Fantasy Gallery event.

According to Japanese game blog Andriasang, Kitase noted that Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII would be a “world-driven” concept, which seems to hint at a massive multiplayer angle.

Lightning will also have customizable clothing and armor, likely to ensure each player’s version is unique.

Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII has Facebook compatibility of some sort, but no specifics were given.

Additionally, the developer described how this game’s version of Lightning would be a character with god-like powers, since her two previous adventures rapidly accelerated her abilities beyond that of any mortal.

No release date was given for the game, but LR:FFXIII is confirmed for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 next year.
