Final Fantasy XIV producer and director Naoki Yoshida took to the stage at Fan Festival in Paris on Saturday to share new details about the game’s upcoming Shadowbringers expansion.
To start with, Yoshida showed an extended teaser trailer for the expansion, which revealed that Shadowbringers will officially launch on July 2nd, 2019 for PlayStation 4 and PC.
This reveal was followed up by the unveiling of the Gunbreaker job. This new gunblade-wielding job takes on the role of tank and will start at level 60 (tentative) when the expansion launches. Watch the first footage of the Gunbreaker job in action below:
Next up was the confirmation that the Viera, the long-eared race from Ivalice, will be the seventh playable race added to the game. Footage of this new race in the game world was shared during the keynote, and it was later confirmed that players will be able to customize the Viera’s ears.
Fans were thrilled to finally see the Viera announced, but the excitement level was raised further when Yoshida revealed that Shadowbringers‘ 24-player alliance raid series will be based around NieR: Automata. The raid is called YoRHa: Dark Apocalypse and is being designed with help from Yosuke Saito and Yoko Taro.
Finally, a Collector’s Edition for the expansion was revealed, which contains a special art box, a Dark Knight figure, an art book, a logo cling, and Final Fantasy XIV playing cards. As well as all this, there are a few in-game bonus items for Collector’s Edition owners, including a Grani mount, a Wind-up Fran Minion, and the Revolver weapon for the Gunbreaker class, which is based on Squall’s weapon from Final Fantasy VIII.
Final Fantasy XIV players will be able to preorder Shadowbringers from February 6th and doing so will offer early access to the expansion starting June 28th, 2019.
