EA Sports recently revealed in a press release that Real Madrid superstar Cristiano Ronaldo will be the cover athlete for FIFA 18, which will be arriving September 29th on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360.

The latest iteration of EA Sports’ soccer franchise will replace the Xbox-exclusive Legends system with the multi-platform Icons system, in which players can add legendary former footballers to their FIFA Ultimate Team.

FIFA 18 will again use the Frostbite Engine in its Xbox One, PS4 and PC versions and will continue the The Journey story mode. It’s unclear yet whether the “custom built” Nintendo Switch version, which will not utilize the Frostbite Engine, will get some form of story mode, although EA is saving most of the details about FIFA 18‘s story mode for its full gameplay release at EA Play on June 10th.

As far as the PS4, Xbox One, and PC versions, three editions of the game will be available: Standard, Ronaldo, and Icon Editions. The Standard Edition will give you $15 worth of Jumbo Premium Gold FIFA Ultimate Team Packs, 8 Special Edition FIFA Ultimate Team Kits, and a five-match Cristiano Ronaldo loan for Ultimate Team Matches.

In addition to these perks, the Ronaldo Edition will grant players three-day early access to the game, meaning players can hit the virtual pitch on September 26th. They’ll also get $60 worth of Jumbo Packs.

If you’re willing to drop $99.99 for the Icon Edition, you’ll get everything from the Ronaldo Edition, plus a five-match loan of Ronaldo Nazario, the legendary Brazilian footballer, who is the first confirmed player included in the Icons program. The Icon Edition also offers $120 worth of Jumbo Packs.

Xbox’s EA Access and PC’s Origin Access members will be able to play for up to ten hours starting September 21st. Meanwhile, EA has chosen the PS4 for its marketing campaigns, despite having marketing exclusives with Xbox for the past few years.

Last year’s iteration was incredibly well-received, so we’re looking forward to learning more about FIFA 18 at EA Play on June 10th.
