THE BUZZ: Via EA’s Earnings Report today, we’ve learned some new sales numbers for a few of the company’s bigger titles.
First up is FIFA, which unquestionably is a major franchise for the company. To date, FIFA 11 has sold over 16 million units, which really is a fantastic number. Meanwhile, FIFA 12—since its debut just two months ago—has already sold 8 million units itself. EA’s report states that FIFA 12′s sell-through numbers are currently up 25% year-over-year compared to how FIFA 11 was doing. Sticking to sports, in a little over the same timeframe, Madden NFL 12 has pushed over 3 million units.
Finally, EA also mentioned that in the wake of the release Battlefield 3, Battlefield Bad Company 2 has itself sold nearly 11 million units.
EGM’s TAKE: While not bad numbers for Madden NFL 12, it certainly does make us Americans realize how the popularity of our football compares to what the rest of the world considers football.
I’ll also be curious to see how Battlefield 3‘s numbers end up comparing to Bad Company 2.
What do you think? Will Battlefield 3 be able to outsell Battlefield Bad Company 2? What about the football vs. football rivalry?
