Final Fantasy Type-0 Confirmed For English Release

THE BUZZ: One of the big names in this last era of major PSP releases is Square Enix’s Final Fantasy Type-0, and many have wondered if the game would be seeing release outside of Japan or not.
In the new Final Fantasy Type-0 Ultimania guide released this week, we actually get confirmation that it will indeed be coming our way. When asked about the future of the series, Type-0 producer Yoshinori Kitase mentions that the team is currently working on the overseas version of the game.
EGM’s TAKE: The big question now isn’t if Final Fantasy Type-0 will come to North America, but how. Square Enix’s recent PSP releases haven’t done gangbusters on our shores, due to the fact that—unfortunately—the PSP itself is in a sorry state in our country. (Opposed to Japan, where the handheld still flourishes.)
A UMD release seems crazy and out of the question, especially due to the fact that the game will no doubt be launching near or after the release of the PS Vita. A digital-only release could happen, but that seems terribly low-key for such a major Square Enix title.
My theory? SE is working on an upscaled Vita version of the game. Make the game prettier, add an extra features or two, and then you can sell it as a major full-priced Vita release. Plus, you’d then get to re-release the game in Japan—a country where game publishers love re-releasing the same game over and over again, each time adding one or two new features here and there.
