The re-release of Final Fantasy VII on PC was given a surprise early launch over the weekend, but was quickly pulled due to DRM issues.
The game went live on the official Square Enix website for $12.70, but was pulled a few hours later replaced by a “coming soon” message. According to posts on the Square Enix forum, the game’s SecuROM DRM failed to authenticate purchases automatically, and manually putting in the game’s serial number didn’t work either.
It appears that the game was accidentally released early and that’s why the DRM failed, but it does suggest that the official release can’t be too far off.
