THE BUZZ: Curious to see what Square Enix has done with the sequel to the love-it-or-hate-it Final Fantasy XIII? You’ll be able to get a taste soon.

Announced on the latest episode of the PlayStation Blogcast podcast, SE will be releasing a Final Fantasy XIII-2 English demo next week as part of the January 10th update to the PlayStation Store.

EGM’s TAKE: Having played about six or so hours of XIII-2 back during the last Tokyo Game Show, I can tell you that the game does seem like it could end up being a lot of fun. Granted, I personally haven’t played Final Fantasy XIII yet, so I can’t directly compare the two. For what it is on its own, however, XIII-2 seems like a decent new chapter of the Final Fantasy saga—one which is doing some interesting things with its time-traveling concept.
