Final Fantasy XIII-2 Director Discusses the Game’s Controversial Ending

THE BUZZ: Final Fantasy XIII-2 Director Motomu Toriyama has spoken out about the controversy surrounding the game’s ending.

Right, if you haven’t finished the game stop here! Spoiler Warning!

OK, now only people who have finished the game should be reading. After completing the game you are greeted with a “To be continued…” message which has left many fans annoyed and angry that after countless hours of work put into the game they don’t even get a proper ending.

Toriyama has explained that the team wanted to make fans explore all of the available paradox endings and then prepare for DLC. The team apparently has several hefty DLC campaign expansions in the works that will continue the story past this point.

EGM’s TAKE: So it appears that you can all stop worrying now, this was the only way that the development team could justify continuing the story past the end of the game without ruining the continuity. Of course it’s going to annoy a lot of people, especially those who don’t buy DLC, but if you want to see the game’s true ending you won’t have a choice. On the plus side it does mean that the game will be receiving some sizable campaign DLC in the future, something that a Final Fantasy game has never got in the past. So stop complaining and just accept that this is the choice that the developers have made, and if you don’t like it don’t buy the DLC. We know that we’ll throw down however much they ask, for some more Final Fantasy action.

Is making fans pay for DLC to see a game past its conclusion acceptable? Leave your thoughts below.
