Final Fantasy

Square Enix officially announced Final Fantasy XIV‘s next expansion, Shadowbringers, during its recent Fan Fest event.

The expansion will see players becoming the Warrior of Darkness as they join forces with the six nations to finally take to the fight to the Garlean Empire.

In terms of content, players will be getting new areas to explore, new dungeons, a new raid series, new end-game gathering and questing quests, adjustments to the battle system, and three big new features: NPC Trust System, New Game+, and the World Visit System.

The NPC Trust System first appeared in Final Fantasy XI and will let players fight alongside familiar NPCs. While the New Game + feature gives players the chance to replay main scenario quests using their current character. Finally, players will be able to visit other worlds on the same data center and complete quests and story content using the World Visit System.

Director Naoki Yoshida also teased multiple new jobs and a new race during the reveal. He refused to officially announce the new race during Fan Fest, but his teaser strongly suggests that it will be Viera.

In a surprise announcement, it was also revealed that the Blue Mage job will be introduced in update 4.5. The Blue Mage is available to all players, regardless of whether they own any expansions, and will be capped at level 50 at launch. The job is described as a “Limited Job,” meaning that it is designed for solo play and cannot enter any duty-based content.

Shadowbringers is scheduled to launch in early summer 2019 for PlayStation 4 and PC.
