Square Enix has released a new gameplay trailer for Final Fantasy XV—formerly known as Versus XIII—that showcases the title’s action-oriented combat (and Noctis’ rampant teleportation).

Originally in development as a Tetsuya Nomura-directed companion title to Final Fantasy XIIIFinal Fantasy XV deviates from the traditional turn-based battle systems that have come to define the Final Fantasy franchise by fully embracing action-RPG elements born out of Nomura’s directorial debut, Kingdom Hearts. Nomura also helps to ground the franchise in reality by focusing on interpersonal, emotional, and geopolitical issues. He has also opted for an aesthetic more reminiscent of the modern age (architecturally, technologically, et cetera).

And after the nightmare that was Final Fantasy XIIIXV is probably Square Enix’s last attempt to keep this once die-hard Final Fantasy fan interested in the franchise.

Final Fantasy XV will debut first on PlayStation 4 sometime 2014, with an Xbox One version to follow.
