Final Fantasy XV and Kingdom Hearts III‘s releases will be separated by a lengthy amount of time due to sharing a creative director, producer Shinji Hashimoto told IGN.
“Both have Tetsuya Nomura as their director, so we can’t create these two big games at the same time,” Hashimoto said to IGN. “It’s a difficult job, as we want each game to be perfect in terms of quality.”
Hashimoto remained tight-lipped about how far into development Kingdom Hearts III was, but considering XV—formerly Versus XIII—was announced way, way earlier, and is no doubt the company’s chief priority right now, it’s safe to say that Kingdom Hearts III is still a long ways out.
“A lot of people have wondered for the last couple of years if Square Enix has actually been working on Kingdom Hearts III; that’s why we announced it at E3 this year,” Hashimoto added. “But please, we need you all to understand that there’s a lot to do.”
