THE BUZZ: Just a short time ago, Double Fine’s now legendary Kickstarter project came to an end—so how much did they end up with?
EGM’s TAKE: So, first of all, congratulations to Tim Schafer and the entire team over at Double Fine. They had the dream of making an old-school adventure game 100% supported by the fans, and the dream has come to be fulfilled far beyond what anybody could have imagined.
When Double Fine started up the idea on Kickstarter, they posted a goal of $400,000. Thirty days later, they beat that goal by just a little—$2.9 million to be exact. The final total reached was $3,335,325, coming via 87,139 supporters—of which I will admit to being one of.
Now comes the really fun part: The creation of the game. One that will exist not because of publishers or market research or focus groups, but because of us.
