Fans of Joss Whedon’s (semi-)departed sci-fi universe have known that Firefly Online is heading to Android and iOS devices ever since the game’s announcement at San Diego Comic-Con, but co-developer QMXi has announced that PC and Mac versions will be available as well when the game launches next summer. Spark Plug Games, which also worked on the iOS version of Puzzle Quest 2, is the other studio involved in development on the project.
Firefly Online is described by QMXi as a “multi-user strategic role-playing game,” and according to the developer, it’ll keep the same features throughout all versions. True to the TV series, the game will focus on players living out a rough-and-tumble existence with a ragtag crew similar to that of Capt. Mal Reynolds on the show: captaining a ship, keeping their crew happy, doing jobs, and getting paid.
Both the captain and first officer will be customizable, and you’ll also be able to tinker with your ship. While there’s no word on specific Firefly or Serenity characters appearing in Firefly Online, QMXi says that players “will notice lots of familiar people and places.”
