2K Games and Firaxis Games have announced that the Maori will be one of the new civilizations in Civilization VI: Gathering Storm.

The Maori are led by Kupe, a navigator who set sail from his home of Hawaiki in the 10th century and discovered New Zealand. The civ’s unique ability is Mana, which grants the Maori the Sailing and Shipbuilding technologies at the start of the game, as well as additional movement and combat strength for embarked units.

The civilization also has the “Marae” unique building, which replaces the Amphitheater and provides Culture and Faith to all tiles in a city with a passable feature, and the “Toa” unique unit, which provides combat bonuses for allied occupying units.

The Gathering Storm expansion was unveiled last week and includes new civilizations and leaders, new units, natural disasters, a global warming system, and more. The expansion is scheduled to launch February 14th, 2019 for PC.
