First Look at Valve’s Steam Machine Prototype

Posted on November 4, 2013 AT 08:39am

The first images of Valve’s Steam Machine prototype have appeared online, offering a look at the company’s PC-like device that it plans to put under people’s televisions worldwide.

A beta test is planned for later this year, which will see this prototype sent out to 300 users. The final aim is to allow PC manufacturers to create their own boxes, which will be set at different price points. The console will run the second part of Valve’s grand plan, SteamOS, which will be Linux-based and runs all compatible games in the Steam library–it also allows users to stream from a PC or Mac running Steam via Wi-Fi.

The final part of the triangle is the Steam controller, which you can see several prototype designs of in the images here.
