First Reports of Black Ops II’s Launch Day Sales Come In

Posted on November 14, 2012 AT 01:18pm

Call of Duty: Black Ops II has only been on sale for one full day at this point, but it’s already racking up huge sales numbers.

Talking to Bloomberg, GameStop president Tony Bartel noted talked about the game’s already impressive launch numbers.

“‘Black Ops II’ is shaping up to be our biggest game launch of all time,” Bartel told Bloomberg. “GameStop sold more than 1 million units worldwide during our midnight launch period.”

Analyst Michael Olson from Piper Jaffray estimates that, when all of the numbers are counted, Black Ops II should sell between 6.5 million and 7.2 million during its first 24 hours. For comparison, the pervious title in the series—Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3—sold 6.5 million over the course of its launch day, while the original Black Ops did 5.6 million.

This time around, pre-order numbers for Black Ops II were supposedly much higher than Modern Warfare 3. So, the question will be if that pre-order number will combine with standard sales to make Black Ops II the fastest-selling Call of Duty release ever, or if it was simply a case of more players going for pre-orders this time around.
