First Trailer, Screenshots For The Side-Scrolling Brawler Sacred Citadel

Posted on August 7, 2012 AT 04:57pm

Deep Silver and Southend Interactive today revealed a somewhat surprising new chapter for the Sacred series in Sacred Citadel, an arcade-style side-scrolling brawler for Xbox Live Arcade, PSN, and PC.

Offering up character choices such as the Safiri Warrior, Ancarian Ranger, and Khukuri Shaman, Sacred Citadel will take place in the Sacred universe, but will bring a new style of gameplay to the series. While the game will have plenty of action-oriented elements—such as dual-wielding weapons, combos, and double jumps—Citadel will also integrate more RPG-esque features as well, such as collectible items and skill set upgrading.

According to the announcement, Sacred Citadel will serve as a prologue to the next chapter of the Sacred story—Sacred 3—and will be online playable by up to four players via drop-in/drop-out co-op.

Clearly, what caught my eye right away about this game is its art style. It’s definitely unique, and gets me interested in Sacred Citadel even with my knowing little about the series. It looks like it could—at times—make some enemies or situation a bit hard to keep track of, but I love seeing developers try to do some different with their games visually.

Sacred Citadel will hit for Xbox Live Arcade, PlayStation Network, and PC (via Steam and other digital distribution services) in 2013.
