For Honor's Assassin's Creed crossover event begins today

For Honor‘s Assassin’s Creed crossover event that Ubisoft teased yesterday launches today, and it brings with it a new game mode and a bunch of cosmetics for players to purchase.

The setup for the limited-time event takes a few liberties with AC’s established mythos. According to Ubisoft’s press release, “Abstergo has created a new gaming experience, called For the Creed, that utilizes the Animus to transport players to an age where the Knights, Vikings, Samurai and Wu Lin wage war on each other,” and the accompanying trailer implies that players are “going back in time and experiencing intense historical events exactly as they happened.” I’m no historian, but I’m pretty sure there was never a cataclysmic event that terraformed our planet into Pangaea II and caused knights, vikings, and samurai to wage war on one another.

Regardless, For the Creed introduces a twist on Dominion in which players can summon enemy team commanders like Ezio Auditore da Firenze and Cesare Borgia to the battle by capturing zones. Defeating these commanders will net your team 300 points, with the goal of reaching 1,000 points and defeating the other team during the breaking period, as is customary with Dominion.

Other than that, For the Creed‘s main draw is the Assassin’s Creed-themed cosmetics players can purchase for their favorite heroes. Assassin’s Creed Odyssey gets representation in the form of “Odyssey of the Misthios Mask Outfits” that will deck out your fighters in ancient Greek garb. There are also the new Haystack Emote, Hidden Blade Execution, more Assassin’s Creed–themed outfits that represent either Assassins and Templars, and weapon skins inspired by a variety of Assassin’s Creed titles.

Each of these For the Creed cosmetic bundles will run you 35,000 Steel per hero, or you can purchase them separately, so either whip out that credit card or get ready to grind. Thankfully, the event will last until January 14th, so you’ll have plenty of time over holiday break to try to earn some Steel.

Following For the CreedFor Honor‘s third year of content will launch on January 31st with its first season, which will introduce a new Knight hero and a new map.
