Of the many changes found in Fortnite Battle Royale season five, some are letting players kill time with a variety of sport activities.

Fortnite‘s fifth season introduced new Battle Pass-exclusive emotes called Toys, which allow players to spawn different sporting equipment and play around with it. The sport balls are unlocked at various Battle Pass tiers, and the most popular of them at the moment is arguably golf. The golf ball players can spawn is larger than a normal one, but whacking it around with a pickaxe will respond with actual physics, as opposed to the action being a simple canned animation. This lets aspiring golfers knock off from the killing to go play a few holes at the game’s golf course in the newly added Lazy Links area, with celebratory animations bursting from the holes when the ball goes in. A successful shot is even posted to the kill feed with the distance from which it was made.

A basketball and beach ball were also included as Toys for the game’s fifth season, and both are similarly interactable. Each ball type has a “Fancy” version that can be unlocked at later tiers, and unfortunately, only one Toy can be carried at a time. No doubt this will open the door for a plethora of other Toys in the future, letting players waste time in a whole variety of ways.

Fortnite Battle Royale’s fifth season is now live, with all of the changes detailed in its recently released patch notes. Slightly more impactful than the new Toys is the introduction of the map’s new desert biome and two new locations. Other additions include the new All-Terrain Kart, new Rifts that teleport you to a random part of the map, and more.

In tandem with the launch of season five was the announcement of Fortnite Battle Royale’s Summer Skirmish series, with a total of $8 million on the line. The first event in the series will go down on July 14th, with a $250,000 Duos competition.

Fortnite’s Toys are the game’s most charming new addition

Now you can take a break from the action in Fortnite Battle Royale to play golf, basketball, and more.
