Forza Horizon 2’s Xbox One and Xbox 360 versions are two different games “inspired by the same ideas,” creative director Ralph Fulton told Digital Spy during E3 earlier this month.
According to Fulton, the one should not be considered a straight port of the other in any capacity.
“It’s based in the same world, it’s based on the same things,” Fulton told Digital Spy. “Rather than thinking of them as the same game on different platforms, they are different games inspired by the same ideas.”
Likewise, the two games are being developed by two different studios, with Playground Games building the Xbox One version from Forza Motorsport 5’s graphic engine while Sumo Digital—the studio behind Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed—handles the Xbox 360 version using the original Forza Horizon’s engine.
“There are things we are doing in Forza Horizon 2 on Xbox One that honestly couldn’t be done on any other console,” Fulton added.
Forza Horizon launches on both Xbox One and Xbox 360 September 30.
