Frostbite team creative director Frank Vitz leads a discussion detailing all the little tricks that make EA’s Frostbite 3 engine tick—including an inside look as to how it lends itself to Battlefield 4—in a new behind-the-scenes video.
“Frostbite has been in development since 2006, and there’s always been a roadmap and a plan for [next-gen]…and beyond,” Vitz says in the video. “I like to think of Frostbite as an evolutionary process, and Frostbite 3 is the next step in that evolution.”
If there’s one underlying goal the Frostbite team strives for, it’s to generate a sense of seamless reality. Everything from how the trees sway realistically in the wind to the complete destruction of the surrounding environment, the world surrounding Battlefield 4 reacts accordingly to the strains you or your teammates put it through.
Battlefield 4 is set to release on October 29 for Xbox 360, PS3, and PC, with Xbox One and PS4 versions due out later this fall.
