FTL: Advanced Edition will feature a new race, a new player ship, and additional ship layouts, developer Subset Games revealed in a post on the game’s official website.

The Lanius are described as metallic lifeforms that live as scavengers, seeking out minerals and sources of metal to survive. As a result, the Lanius do not require life support, and in fact drain oxygen from compartments due to their “unique composition.”

In addition to the Lanius, FTL: Advanced Edition will introduce a Lanius player ship, a third layout designed around the game’s new content for eight of the original ships, and several new drones: the Shield drone, which generates a more powerful ship shield; the Anti-Combat drone, which attacks enemy combat drones, and the Ion Intruder, which randomly ionizes enemy ship systems while simultaneously stunning their crew.

FTL: Advanced Edition is set to launch on Windows PC, Mac, Linux, and iPad early 2014. The Advanced Edition content will be available for free for anyone who already purchased the game on PC, Mac, or Linux.
