Funcom CEO Steps Down on the Day of The Secret World’s Launch

In an odd turn of events, on the day of the launch of Funcom’s new MMO, The Secret World, CEO Trond Arne Aas has announced that he is stepping down from his position.
Aas won’t be leaving Funcom though, he has decided to move into a ”new and freer” advisory position. Former COO Ole Schreiner will take over the reins of the company, unfortunately with The Secret World launching today he’s not going to have an easy first few weeks.
Aas will remain chief strategy officer for Funcom and will be working on the recently announced LEGO MMO, as well as several other undisclosed projects. In an official statement he said, ”The company’s financial position is strong and the foundation of the company’s long-term product and technology strategy is in place… It feels like a very natural point in time for me to make the transition to a new and freer role in the company, but I will remain committed to the company, both as a major shareholder and as an employee.”
