Gamescom 2012: ‘Remember Me’ Dumped By Sony, Devs Say No Hard Feelings

French developer Dontnod Entertainment hasn’t had the easiest path to their Gamescom 2012 debut of Remember Me, but nonetheless is making a solid impression thanks to their current partnership with Capcom. In fact, the futuristic action game was originally meant to be published by Sony as a PlayStation 3 exclusive.

However, Sony wound up canceling their support for the project, leaving the team to flounder for a bit.

Dontnod creative lead Jean-Maxime Moris told Joystiq about the unexpected turn of events, although he says that the team doesn’t harbor any ill will towards Sony over it:

“The Sony deal was signed February 2010 and ended a year later. We were totally independent, and had no publisher, but we were looking for one,” Dontnod creative lead Jean-Maxime Moris told Joystiq in an interview this morning. So, what went wrong?

“I won’t go into too many details, but basically they cancelled a bunch of projects, and we were just one of them,” Moris said. “It felt bad at the time. And now, in retrospect, it’s just one step toward where we are now.”

If that’s the case, then getting dropped by Sony might have been the best thing to happen to Remember Me. Not only is the game now being released later than intended, stealing the show at Gamescom 2012 as result, but the new multi-platform launch might actually double its sales.

Sony and Dontnod parted ways in February 2011, but Capcom thankfully picked up the pieces. Remember Me will now be releasing worldwide for PS3, Xbox 360, and PC systems in May 2013.
