Gamescom 2012: Tearaway, The Papercrafty New Vita Adventure From Media Molecule

Media Molecule—the developers behind LittleBigPlanet—are working their magic once again on Tearaway, a new Vita adventure game that takes place in a world crafted by paper.

In Tearaway, we’re introduced to a “plucky messenger with a unique message” who is trying to get a delivery to a very important person—you. In order to do so, he has to traverse a wild world crafted completely out of paper. Along the way, he’ll run into all sort of challenges—challenges you can help him overcome via platforming, the front and rear touch screens, vocal interactions, and more.

In one very unique showcase for Tearaway‘s concepts, by using the back touch pad you can reach your fingers—well, okay, your virtual finger—directly into the world, ripping through the paper and interacting with the game’s inhabitants.

Tearaway shows a lot of creativity and charm—just what I’d be expecting from the men and women who brought us LittleBigPlanet. I’m not totally sold on all of the gimmicks and “augmented reality” feature—part of me wishes this was just a straight-forward adventure game—but I also know I could totally be sold on the ideas once I get the game into my hands.

Either way, it’s nice to see more unique and worthwhile games starting to get announced for the Vita.
