According to GameStop’s executive vice president Michael Hogan, the PlayStation 4 will launch globally in 2013.

Speaking to investors and analysts during GameStop’s fourth quarter earnings call last week, Hogan said, “We know that Sony will introduce the PlayStation 4 globally in 2013, but we are still waiting to see what Microsoft’s final plans are. We have scenarios with one console introduction, as well as with two. Even a single launch in 2013 will drive double-digit console growth in 2014; and two launches would likely drive the console category north of 20 per cent growth.”

That the PS4 would launch this year—in North America—was a safe bet, especially given Battlefield 4’s rumored October release date and Assassin Creed IV’s confirmed October 29th launch date, November 1st for Europe. The big takeaway from this, if true, is the notion of a global PS4 launch.
