Most retailer stores and online shops are sold out of Nintendo Wii U pre-orders, and that includes GameStop. However, if you happen to be a PowerUp Rewards member, you may be in luck.
Although the retailer will undoubtedly by taking pre-orders on and off in the lead-up to the console’s November 18th launch, you won’t be able to put down money for it if you’re a commoner.
But if you’re a customer who’s actually taken the company up on their frequent membership offers, you’re in an exclusive group that’s allowed to reserve a console, saving you from waiting outside of Best Buy or Target overnight.
Here’s the official spin from GameStop, who apparently announced the wait list option prior to this past weekend:
“Demand for Wii U has been off the charts and we know many of our PowerUp Rewards members are anxious to get their hands on one,” said GameStop president Tony Bartel. “We’re happy to offer our customers this exclusive opportunity to join the wait list for this must-have item.”
PowerUp Rewards members can visit any U.S. GameStop store to join the Wii U wait list (limit two per household). Once on the list, customers will be notified when a Wii U is available for purchase and will have 48 hours to respond. There is no deposit required to join the wait list and enrolling does not guarantee a Wii U on or by a specified date or at a specific price.
That’s a pretty drastic move, although it’s still a smart way to promote the PowerUps Rewards.
It’s already evident that a lot of parents will be signing up for the retail chain’s silver cards during the next month in a frantic bid to get their hands on a Wii U for their families. At this rate, it’ll be near impossible to find during the holidays.
