GameStop Offering Catwoman Code With Used Copies Of Batman: Arkham City
Posted on October 16, 2011 AT 08:50am
THE BUZZ: Despite efforts to limit access to the Catwoman character only to those who purchase Batman: Arkham City new, Gamestop plans to offer the code even to those who pick up a used copy.
Warner Bros has apparently struck a deal with the retailer to offer the codes that should only be available to purchasers of new copies. This is according to an internal GameStop memo that was leaked to Kotaku informing employees that the code can be found on the receipt, meaning players can avoid the extra $10 they would have otherwise had to pay to unlock the content.
EGM’s TAKE: As Kotaku notes, it doesn’t make a lot of sense for Warner Bros. to set up a barrier to devalue used copies of Batman: Arkham City by limiting access to Catwoman, only to later permit the biggest distributor of used games to offer that very content for free. All that said, expect GameStop to sell Gotham-sized numbers of used Batman: Arkham City games based on this information.
