GameStop Taking Wii U Pre-Orders, Offering $60 For Your Old Wii

If you’re ready to trade up to the Nintendo Wii U when it releases on November 18th, GameStop’s already set to make you a deal on your old Wii console. Right now, you have 60 reasons to trade it in and pre-order.

As GameStop‘s website notes, you can normally get $50 for a Wii trade-in if the console is in good condition.

But with the Wii U prices and release dates now announced, the video game retailer is pinning an extra 10 bucks on the deal, offering up to $60 in trade-in money for your pre-order.

Of course, that comes with a caveat that neither GameStop nor Nintendo happen to be mentioning.

While the Wii U will be backwards compatible with your Wii games, everyone with a special launch-era Wii console has to kiss their GameCube backwards compatibility goodbye.

If you fall into that group, you’ll have to make the call—is trading in your Wii worth digging in the closet every time you want to play Super Smash Bros. Melee, The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, or Super Mario Strikers?
