Gearbox Software, the makers behind the successful Borderlands games, are opening a new studio in Quebec Studio aimed at strengthening production of future AAA titles.
Currently headquartered in Frisco, Texas, an announcement on the Gearbox website names two co-heads for the expansion in Quebec city: Sebastien Caisse, who will also act as director of operations, and Pierre-Andre Dery, who will double as studio creative director. Caisse is noted to have a more business oriented background, having worked with Sony and Microsoft, while Dery has made creative contributions to to titles such as FarCry, Deus Ex and Skylanders, among others.
?As part of our strategy [to meet growing demand] have already successfully built an expanded all new headquarters in Frisco, Texas,? said Randy Pitchford, President of Gearbox Software in the announcement. ?We now look ahead to another key and exciting step which is our commitment towards our all-new Gearbox Studio Quebec where we strive to team up with some incredible talent in the world of video game development outside of Texas to help us build fun and exciting video games within our tent-pole brands.?
This year Gearbox Software released Borderlands: the Handsome Collection and helped bring the classic PC title Homeworld to the current generation with Homeworld Remastered Collection. The developers are currently working to bring MOBA-style shooter Battleborn to launch sometime in 2016.
