Over the course of two weeks, over 1.6 million gamers took part in the Gears of War 4 beta.
Microsoft PR announced the numbers in a statement following the April 2016 NPD report, describing Gears of War 4 as “what is expected to be our biggest game of the year.” While the number of players might pale in comparison to those of other recent betas?say, Overwatch‘s record-breaking 9.7 million?Gears 4 had the notable disadvantage of only being available on Xbox One, so the potential user base was much lower to begin with.
Gears of War 4‘s beta was two-part, with first a closed beta (available to those who purchased the Gears of War: Ultimate Edition) and an open beta. The closed beta ran from April 18th through 24th, with the open beta running the following week.
Gears of War 4 launches on Xbox One on October 11th.
