Nintendo Switch

Nintendo Switch players still have a few more hours to enjoy playing for free online.

The Nintendo Switch Online service launches today, September 18th. According to the latest statement from Nintendo, however, maintenance won’t start until around 5 p.m. PT. Up until then, players will still be able to jump into their favorite online games, like Splatoon 2 and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, and play for free.

Once 5 p.m. PT rolls around, all online systems will be offline for a while as Nintendo implements the new systems. Maintenance could take up to three hours, but should be finished by 8 p.m. PT at the latest.

After the maintenance ends, we’ll officially begin the era of Nintendo Switch Online. You’ll need to purchase a subscription, either through the eShop or another retailer, to continue playing most of your games online, though everyone will get a free week at the start to test the service out.

Nintendo Switch Online costs $3.99 per month, $7.99 per three months, or $19.99 per year. A family membership can also be purchased for households with multiple Nintendo Switches, and costs $34.99 per year. You can see all the details on Nintendo’s site.
